10 year old launches headstone cleaning business and donates 10% to charity

Most kids dream of running lemonade stands or mowing lawns for pocket money, but 10 year old Ben from Ilkeston, Derbyshire, has a business idea that’s as touching as it is unique, cleaning gravestones.

It all started when Ben visited his grandmother’s grave and noticed something that tugged at his heartstrings. While carefully tending to her resting place, he looked around and saw other headstones covered in moss and dirt, forgotten over time. “They looked a bit sad,” he told his mother, Michelle.

Instead of just feeling sorry, Ben decided to take action. With a little encouragement from his mum, he launched a business dedicated to restoring gravestones to their former dignity. But that’s not all—he’s also pledged to donate 10% of his earnings to Stevie Stones, a charity that provides headstones for families who have lost children but can’t afford a proper memorial.

After Michelle shared Ben’s story on Facebook, the response was overwhelming. Thousands of likes, shares, and supportive comments poured in, proving that kindness is contagious.

“People have just been so lovely and supportive,” Michelle said. “It’s really warmed all of our hearts.”

The mother-son duo took the venture seriously, researching the best cleaning methods to ensure the delicate stonework remains undamaged. Now, armed with the right products and a whole lot of determination, Ben is ready to make a difference—one gravestone at a time.

But Ben isn’t just stopping at good intentions. He’s got business instincts, too. He’s been pushing his mum to get things moving fast.

“Make my website, Mum—come on, let’s get it done!” he urged her.

With his entrepreneurial spirit, his heart of gold, and the power of social media behind him, Ben is proving that even the smallest hands can make a big impact.

Who knew that a simple act of cleaning could turn into something so deeply meaningful?
